Naturopathic Diet

5/3/2019

Upon first investigating a naturopathic diet for yourself and your family, you may find yourself confronted with a host of conflicting information that bombards you from every angle. Not only can this be incredibly overwhelming, but confusing as well.

We aim to clear up some of the confusion by providing you with our all-natural diet plan to help you live a healthier life and reap the numerous other benefits that come from following a naturopathic cleanse diet.

It's a known fact that eating to nourish is one of the best ways to improve our quality of life. Studies have shown that your gut bacteria, which thrives on nutritious food, has an important role to play in your brain chemistry.

The real key to naturopathic treatments of any kind is balance. Everything is interconnected, from your physiology and pathology to your biochemistry and anatomy. In giving your body what it needs to sustain itself, you'll set off a domino effect that affects every aspect of your life positively. Another benefit of a naturopathic diet is that it’s anti-inflammatory, leaving you less bloated than if you were to consume other foods.

Happy Body, Happy Life

In pursuing naturopathic treatment for weight loss, there are some things to know as far as a list of natural foods and nutrients you should incorporate into your diet is concerned. However, an all-natural food diet won't just help you lose weight; it will fuel your mind and body while aiding in your pursuit of a healthier lifestyle.

Some of the foods and nutrients you can eat to sustain yourself include:
  • Complex Carbohydrates – Often, diets will tell you to cut out every food that's high in carbohydrates. However, a naturopathic diet incorporates complex carbohydrates as they're proven to be incredibly good for you. They’re high in dietary fibre, lower in calories than simple carbs, and can help stabilise your blood sugar. Some examples of complex carbohydrates include lentils, kidney beans, chickpeas, sweet potatoes, butternut, and pumpkin.
  • Fats – Much like carbohydrates, not all fats and oils are bad for you. Fats found in fish and plant sources are incredibly good for you and promote a balanced, naturopathic diet. Consider including more avocados, olives, nuts, and seeds into your meals. Some oils you can use as healthier alternatives include the likes of olive, canola, coconut, and grapeseed oils.
  • Proteins – Good old protein. Another essential for the nutrition of your body, generally, you need between 25g and 40g of protein a day. However, don't think that you can't get the amount of protein you need by eating a large number of animal products. You can find complete proteins in foods like black beans and other legumes, tofu, green peas, and tempeh to name a few.
  • Micro Nutrients – Another vital element of any diet or eating plan, micronutrients provide a host of minerals we require and contain a plethora of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and antioxidants. You can find micronutrients in a lot of the food you consume, but the kicker is that many people don't get enough of them on a daily basis. Often, supplementation is required for you to reach your target amount of micronutrients.

As far as what you should avoid or restrict yourself from having on your plate, the list is as follows:
  • Most animal products in excess
  • Simple carbohydrates
  • Trans fats and hydrogenated fats
  • Processed food of any kind
  • Excessive amounts of caffeine and alcohol

Top Natural Foods to Clear Your Bowels:
  • Chia Seeds
  • Berries
  • Apples
  • Leafy Greens
  • Flaxseeds

It’s All About Balance

When it comes down to it, a naturopathic diet goes hand in hand with an all-around healthy lifestyle. Included in this are healthy thought patterns, drinking enough water, getting lots of fresh air and sunlight, and partaking in other activities that stimulate, motivate, and inspire you.

Here’s a list of some of what you should incorporate into your routine as part of your new healthy lifestyle:
  • Social interactions
  • Pursuing creative endeavours like painting, drawing, writing, and music
  • Meditation and prayer
  • Physical activities that interest you, such as yoga, Pilates, sport, or dance
